Location

The Fairhaven Trading Post is located within Fairhaven's market street in Joriah, towards the center of the village and is incredibly easy to locate due to it's location and the merchant's scales painting on the sign.

Atmosphere and Appearance

This general store is a large, two story building with wide double doors flanked by large display windows showcasing the store's seasonal wares and general supplies, or stock Brena is hoping to move. A broad wooden porch extends out from the front, covered by the second-floor overhang, and is lined with neatly stacked crates and barrels of mundane stock that isn't as likely to be affected by the weather. Nothing about the building is decorative; every board and stone was chosen for function. A small painted sign swings above the door: a brass scale, the store's emblem, with "Fairhaven Trading Post" in neat white lettering

The inside is shelves upon shelves, floor to ceiling with meticulously organised and labelled merchandise, divided into five distinct sections of the store marked by hand-painted wooden sign hanging from the ceiling: Tools and Hardware, Clothing and Textiles, Food Staples, Travel Supplies and Curiosities and Oddities. A long wooden counter runs across the back of the store, topped with a brass scale and iron cash box and behind the counter, a closed door leads to a narrow staircase going up to the family's private bedrooms and a locked, glass-fronted cabinet. The cabinet is secured with a heavy iron lock and holds the store's most valuable inventory, customers can see what's inside but must ask Brena directly to handle anything. Tucked into a corner of the store are two worn but comfortable armchairs arranged around a small table with a notebook and pen, perhaps for discussing larger transactions or for weary travelers to rest companions shop, and Brena has been known to bring over a cup of tea for anyone who looks particularly road-worn.

The second floor is the Brightfields' private home, accessed by the staircase behind the counter. It's modest but comfortable: a small kitchen and sitting room, two bedrooms, and a storage room where Brena keeps her old merchant ledgers, maps, and the more valuable inventory overflow. The windows look out over the Fairhaven street below, and a small balcony at the back overlooks a modest garden where Brena grows herbs for cooking and simple remedies.

Staff

Brena Brightfield, a sharp-eyed human female in her 50s, graying red hair pulled back into a practical ponytail with a pleasant but small smile on her face. She will warm up quickly to most people, but keeps things strictly business initially as she doesn't like to get attached to people just travelling through. She used to be a travelling merchant and grew used to passing people by, but settled down after inheriting the store and now cares deeply for familiar faces.

Vivienne Brightfield, a youngish human female in her 20s, she has vibrant red hair that sits in a neat bun atop her head, a thin layer of makeup and a overly friendly but a little vapid personality. Daughter of Brena, she helps her mother around the shop and will fawn over any young handsome traveler that enters the shop, much to her mother's dismay. She seems content with her life, knowing she'll take over the shop one day.

Jasper Honeysuckle, Martha Honeysuckle's older son, young adult halfling with longish brown hair he keeps tied back, works at one of the local cattle farms but helps out in the tavern and trading post during the cold season, Algus, when the farmer doesn't need as many hands. Very physically strong, helps out with all sorts of jobs when he's around but quiet until he's had a few drinks.

Special Orders

Brena maintains contacts across Joriah through her old merchant network. If a customer needs something the Trading Post doesn't stock — a specific tool, a rare component, a particular book — she can usually source it within a week or two, for a 10% finder's fee on top of the item's cost. She'll send word via the carrier pigeon service at the Turnpike's Lantern.

Bulk Discount

For caravans, farming families, or anyone buying in significant quantity, Brena offers a 10% discount on orders over 50 gp. She'll also deliver within Fairhaven for free on orders over 25 gp — Fenwick Honeysuckle from The Wayward Wheel sometimes handles the deliveries for a bit of extra coin.

Line of Credit

Brena extends modest credit to trusted regulars — locals she's known for years, or establishments like the Turnpike's Lantern and The Wayward Wheel. She keeps meticulous records in a leather-bound ledger behind the counter. Newcomers pay upfront.
