Location

Saltforge's Ironworks is found towards the town of Tarrinport, Joriah, attempting to put some space between itself and the sea spray that comes living on the shoreline. The towering chimney with constant dark smoke plumes makes the blacksmith very easy to locate amongst the other shops and residences, combined with the rhythmic sounds of the craftsman's hammer on metal.

Atmosphere and Appearance

The blacksmith of this town is a mostly stone two-story structure but is heavily reinforced with various metals, like it was designed to withstand hurricane winds and tidal surges. The walls are constructed from dark grey harbour stone, stained with decades of salt spray and forge smoke with a tall brick smokestack that dominates the skyline. The double doors are typically open wide to assist with ventilation, however the front wall can be lifted during good weather, letting the public watch as metal is formed and shaped into the various orders. A massive iron anchor hangs above the entrance, with the shop name hammered into a metal plaque below it - an order made for a ship that never returned.

Heading inside, you are immediately met with the heat of the forge as you enter the workshop floor, a cavernous space dominated by the central forge and a floor of packed earth covered with years of coal dust and metal shavings. Several anvils of different sizes and grinding wheels take up the majority of the remaining space, one of the walls is lined with hammers and tongs of every conceivable size and shape, every tool showing the wear of regular use. One corner of the room appears less worn, with plaques remembering vessels and crews that never returned and the hammers of the previous masters of this shop, Grimjaw's mother and grandfather.

The second floor is the living quarters for Grimjaw, the heat emanating from the forge takes some getting used to but it is still a comfortable apartment. There is a bedroom that is kept minimal, a kitchen with basic cooking facilities and a sitting area that he uses more like an office, including to plan his more complex projects with a large drafting table and shelves of books and reference materials, including old project sketches that are covered in his own notes on how to improve.

Staff

Grimjaw Saltforge, a male orc standing nearly 7 feet tall in his late 30s, he has broad shoulders built from decades of swinging heavy hammers and countless small scars across his dark green skin, another sore sign of his trade. Two prominent tusks jut out from his lower jaw, the left one is noticeably chipped, and he keeps his black hair short and practical, often singed at the edges from working too close to the forge. He learned the trade from his mother who passed away recently, who learned from her father who opened the shop after wanting to utilise his skills to build, not forging weapons that destroy. His perfectionism comes from knowing the family name and skill expected from the torch he now carries, and he carries it proudly.

Marcus Saltforge, a lithe human male in his 30s, Grimjaw's husband of 6 years now, he keeps his long red hair tied back and out of the way, especially while down in the workshop. His tan skin has a couple of scars that match the sore signs of trade of his husband, but he found more luck handling the business side of the shop, handling the customer relations, contracts and finances. He is very gentle and diplomatic, assisting with customers to the best of his abilities and always helping out someone in need.
