The Kingdom
Kingdom values
Liathians prefer to keep the peace, but they are by no means weak. Even the royal family would rather solve disputes through conversation over the use of steel, but should the need for steel arise, their kingdom guard is well trained.
They believe strength comes from the heart, and when you believe in yourself and your allies, your venture will always be fruitful, regardless of whether you're successful.
Compassion and sympathy will get you far in the eyes of a Liathian, proving you as a worthy companion and perhaps even worthy of trust.
Liathians believe that staying together and being close knit as a village, town, kingdom will keep you safe and protected. They will stick with the people they know and trust, and Liathians will rarely permanently move to a different kingdom, unless they’re running away or for work.
Known for
Liath is often called a quaint kingdom, they don’t have large armies or lots of wealth, they don’t draw the attention of large beasts or criminal organisations, they are very content with a simple, and humble, lifestyle, always opting for practical over style or luxury. They farm the land, mine the mountains, fish from the rivers and mostly sustain themselves, even the nobles and monarchy aren’t above getting their hands dirty.
This kingdom is also known for its many festivals throughout the year, celebrating the weather, the gods, or the skill of their citizens with grand prizes and high esteem for those who win. Many travel from other kingdoms to witness these magnificent displays that welcome the seasons with dancing and revelry, honour their gods with gifts and song, and display the hard work of their chefs, blacksmiths, enchanters, alchemists and many more with praise, admiration and gold.
The people of Liath are often known for being kindhearted folk, they typically believe in the best in people and would race a Syndonian for being the first to invite someone in need of aid into their home. They may not be the person who will tell you the blunt truth, but they’ll be your shoulder to cry on.
They’re also known for being hard workers, they don’t shy away from a hard task or a new challenge, and they’re not afraid to seek help if the task seems too difficult, they’re not prideful people.
Government and Monarchy
While the royal family holds most of the political power in Liath, they are not above the law, and any decisions such as creating or abolishing laws, or how to respond to attacks and threats are made by the Council. The Council consists of the current hereditary ruler, who is presently the King Nathaniel, two advisors to the ruler, usually consisting of a scholar and a magic-wielder but they can be whoever the ruler chooses, and a noble representative from every town. This method was formed to better represent the needs and wants of the people and to avoid abuse of power. When the present hereditary ruler passes away, the rule will pass onto their spouse if alive, and then will be passed onto the heir. In the event that the heir is not of age when the present ruler and their spouse pass away, the Council will rule and teach the heir until they’re of age to be crowned and step into their new title.
Law Enforcement
The Liath Guard, known as the Eternal Guard, the name stemming from their Aelivian beliefs, are the key law enforcement of the kingdom, from upholding the law and protecting the citizens in the towns and villages to being the personal protection of nobles and royalty. The Liath Guard consists of citizens of the kingdom who choose to become footmen in the Guard, they’re given training by more experienced and higher ranking members of the Guard and upon completion, they’re assigned a position by the general.
Military Strength
Liath doesn’t specifically have an army or military, they use the Eternal Guard to defend their borders and their people, but would not have the strength to declare war on another kingdom, or defend from a large invasion. They have what they need to keep the peace, deter crime and keep the people safe
